Introducing… Soho Sessions (and win!)

Music has been the backbone of PizzaExpress ever since our founder, Peter Boizot, thought the perfect side order to his margherita and glass of red would be a live jazz band. He later opened the PizzaExpress Jazz Club.

That was in 1969 and our love for live music hasn’t changed.

We are pleased to announce our new and intimate series of music nights – Soho Sessions – that will bring to light raw talent at one of London’s most iconic live music venues.

You could win tickets to this invite-only event (just scroll down).

Tuesday 24th July will see the launch of Soho Sessions with a soulful stripped down peformance by Grammy-nominated singer Gregory Porter who has sold out shows across the world and is a favourite for music lovers such as Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum.
Gregory will be supported by acclaimed beatboxer Shlomo and vocalist Mara Carlyle.

Bringing Jay’s Voice to the stage

Earlier this month we hosted an evening with Jay Norton, contestant from BBC music show The Voice.

We were delighted to hear that one of our team members was going so well on the show and that someone as influential and respected as Will.i.am showed him so much on national television.

The crowd at The Pheasantry included loads of people from the music and media world, friends and family plus some people who were lucky enough to grab a ticket.

So, on the 1st May Jay rocked up on stage, showcased some of his infectious charm and performed some beautiful acoustic gems backed by his pianist and guitarist.

We just wanted to thank Jay for coming down and performing some songs for us – we wish him all the best as he takes on the world.

Charlie Watts at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club

It is no secret that we love live music.

Live music has been the lifeblood of PizzaExpress since Peter Boizot opened the first PizzaExpress Jazz Club on Dean Street, Soho, London way back in 1969.

We are very excited to host two shows with the legendary Charlie Watts, of The Rolling Stones fame, on 17th March as part of The Steinway Festival 2012 at our Dean Street jazz club.

Tickets to catch Charlie Watts in such an intimate venue sold out immediately BUT we have two tickets to giveaway.

We have closed the competition and drawn a winner. Congratulations to Clare who won dinner for two and a double pass to the show.

And the winner of The Big Audition is…

Last night saw The Big Audition with Jamie Cullum draw to a close with 5 finalists each performing a 10 minute showcase to a crowded room at PizzaExpress in Kensington Olympia.

With a judging panel comprising of Jamie Cullum, Sir Michael Parkinson, Heather Small, Clive Davis and Beth Rowley, the finalists really had to bring their A-game. A career launching prize included £5000 from Barclaycard Freedom and a three night residency at the famed PizzaExpress Jazz Club in Dean Street, Soho was on offer.

The finalists included singer/songwriter Andy Lewis, jazzy blue-eyed soul trio from the US The Yesberger Band, South Londoners Offbeat South, 14 year old Elle Watson and teen jazz duo Palms13.

From over 7,500 entries the act that was awarded first place was Offbeat South. Their dubstep production with live instrumentation worked a treat with the crowd – people were literally jumping!

A huge thanks to the final 5 and everyone who entered The Big Audition, the talent was truly amazing.
