Food glorious food. We love it. What isn’t to love about it? There is something so special about pulling two or more flavours together and creating a new combination.
Often, we get too accustomed to our ‘usual’ and not giving new flavours or ingredients a go. This runs similar to meat on pizza, we often hear friends say “it’s not a real pizza unless there is pepperoni” or “I need to have meat as part of my main or I just don’t feel satisfied”. We understand how they feel but really wanted to help educate people about the possibility of alternate options that are good for you.
We have looked at the wonderful Meat Free Monday campaign set up by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney in 2009, it encourages people to go one day a week without eating meat, for health benefits and to help the environment by reducing effects of climate change. What a marvelous initiative!
We really want to support Meat Free Monday and possibly ask some of our community to take the Meat Free Monday challenge this Autumn and find something new on our menu.
Meat Free Monday have been so kind to give us some Meat Free Monday cookbooks signed by Sir Paul McCartney via our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Today we launched the first ever nationally recognised qualification in the art of pizza-making. This means you can now work towards an apprenticeship whilst working in our kitchens.
We have created the one-year ‘Pizzaiolo Apprenticeship’ with expert vocational education specialists City & Guilds, and training providers Lifetime Training. They will help apprentices to learn-while-you-earn, giving formal training alongside the experts in our restaurants. They’ll also ensure apprentices cover off all the specific skills they need to meet the requirements of an Intermediate (Level 2) Apprenticeship in Kitchen Services.
So what does it involve? Pizzaiolo Apprentices will quickly find themselves at the heart of one of our busy, professional kitchens. As well as covering off the basics, including ingredient preparation, you will take on the vital kitchen services skills to enable you to cook safely and efficiently – all the essential skills needed to kick-start a career as a professional chef.
The equivalent of five GCSEs at grade A-C, the Pizzaiolo Apprenticeship will involve face-to-face tuition and guidance from onsite mentors, development workshops and master classes. Your training will be a truly personal experience, teaching you all the secrets behind making the perfect pizza.
The hands-on experience will prove invaluable for anyone wanting to go into hospitality. Over the next three years we’re aiming to train up 200 new apprentices across the nation – if you’d like to be a part of it get in touch at email@example.com.

Design is part of our genetic make-up. From the moment Peter Boizot teamed up with Enzo Apicella in the 60s to create our restaurant design vision, having unique pieces of art on our walls across the UK, to Peter Blake developing unique murals on our walls – the arts has inspired us from day one.
This Summer we wanted to share our love of art by teaming up with Art.co.uk to provide savings on artworks for your home. You really need to check out their vast catalogue of artworks; including pop-art classics, black and white photography, scenic decorative – they have something to make your wall sparkle.
For our Love Your Summer Art Month of June we have an exclusive giveaway for you thanks to Art.co.uk – we are giving away the three beautiful pieces that we have featured on our receipts this Summer.
Competition is now closed
To enter – tell us: which artist helped Peter Boizot develop our restaurant design in the 1960s?
Competition is closed: Three correct entries will be picked at random and will receive one of our featured artworks above. Entrants must be living in the UK and be over the age of 16. The prize includes delivery and print, the frame will not be included. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash and has no cash value. Winners will be contacted via email on the 1st July 2013

Today marks the start of Summer here at PizzaExpress.
We know there are two things wrong with the above sentence:
1) Summer hasn’t technically started (21st June is the day!)
2) It doesn’t really feel like Summer at the moment, does it?
Even though Summer needs a little kick in the backside we are here to help you squeeze the most out of the good times ahead.
We LOVE the longer days, the extra time spent with friends & family and holidays… not to mention the energy in the air when our skies are filled with sun rays.
To celebrate all the awesome things about Summer we have created a monthly Summer Pass for all our friends to enjoy – this pass includes discounts with some partners who share our passions: Art, music, film and food.
To receive a Summer Pass all you have to do is dine with us anytime in June, July and August.
We also have a competition to win £1500 to spend with your friends at See Tickets. Entry is easy – simply take a photo of your PizzaExpress pizza this Summer and upload it to Instagram or Twitter with #loveyoursummer
Go on, Love Your Summer. We know we will.

Today we have a guest post from Emma Button. Emma’s blog Mellow Mummy features insightful information for parents about teaching their children the fun aspects of cooking.
My daughters have been helping me out in the kitchen since they were old enough to sit upright and grasp a spoon between their tiny fingers. For me and my children, cookery is more than a daily grind to make sure there are meals on the table – cooking is a social, educational and most importantly FUN activity in which the whole family can get involved.
The educational value of getting kids cooking hasn’t gone unnoticed. Pizza Express school visits have long been an opportunity for groups of school children to learn the basics about health and safety in the kitchen and to begin to understand the value of fresh ingredients and the origins of the food that might appear on their plate in a restaurant.
Cooking at home with my children is also a great place to explore basic science, maths and creative skills. When I am cooking with my girls, they enjoy it so much that they don’t even realise they are learning along the way.
Take this weekend… my 3 year old daughter helped me bake her baby sister’s first birthday cake. She weighed and measured all the ingredients which is a great opportunity for learning first numbers, comparing weights and measures and developing accuracy. Next she mixed them together which is not only fun AND messy but also teaches her about the transformations that take place when you add different ingredients together. Finally we created a cake masterpiece with icing and sprinkles which encourages her crafty and creative side. When the candles were blown out on I could see my daughter oozing with pride – it was very tasty too.
This year Pizza Express aim to inspire a generation of children to get into the kitchen through their partnership with The Children’s Food Trust. The #GettingKidsCooking campaign features a series of online activities such as cookery competitions to encourage you and your children to start cooking at home.
