Our flagship restaurant at Leicester Square opens Friday 13th February!

Book your table here: po.st/PELeicesterSquare

For the first time in PizzaExpress’ 50-year history, we are opening a flagship site.  It features a fully-stocked bar, cocktails and the very best in restaurant design. Introducing new stylistic elements, while staying true to the principles set out by our first interior designer, Enzo Apicella, the new restaurant sympathetically celebrates the architecture and history of the Grade 2 listed building – it was Home to The Crown Pub for 100 years - with nods to the building’s past, as well as its Leicester Square location.

On the outside of the building, mosaic tiles featuring gold crowns can still be seen and are complemented by an up-to-date take on traditional black and gold signage scheme, spelling out ‘PizzaExpress’.  The internal design is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the traditional London pub.  Cut crystal and gold spirit decanters hang from the ceiling, while the warm, modern-naturalistic colour palette hints at the building’s past.  Timber top tables, ambient lighting and the ground floor windows lined with table lamps, offering a soft glow, all contribute the warm and inviting atmosphere. Central to the ground floor is a fully-stocked bar with an illuminated bottle display and, overhead, rows of glasses glisten in the light – a gentle invitation to stop in for a drink or enjoy a tipple before dinner. Our restaurants often take their design inspiration from local history, famous people or events.

Situated close to the home of film premieres, famous quotes punctuate the restaurant.  Upon entering, a sign made in the style of an old illuminated cinema board proclaiming, “It’s a wonderful life” invites you in, while “Shaken, not stirred” sits cheekily above the bar.  The stairs pay homage to Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, while Gone with the Wind and Brief Encounters add intrigue to the toilets.  “I’ll be back” is the final treat as customers leave. Not forgetting its proximity to the tube station and the area’s appeal to tourists, classic London Underground signage reminds customers to “Mind the Gap”.

Head of Design, Jonathan Griffiths, said, “We’ve always viewed ourselves as the custodians of the fantastic buildings we work in, creating designs that celebrate the space as well as their heritage.  Our Leicester Square restaurant is a great example of how we’ve married the needs of the building with Enzo’s eye for creating spaces that people want to inhabit.” PizzaExpress Leicester Square opens on 13 February.  Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
